Skin Care Tips for Winter
Winter is coming. Are you looking forward to it? To many, winter brings joy, especially when we remember holidays, winter vacations and warm, pleasant moments that we’ve spent with our family and friends. On the other hand, coldness brings up many problems which should not be ignored. Cold, clear winter days can cause intolerable dryness of your skin which can often result in cracking. As you leave indoors your skin is beginning to dry out. Your face, hands and feet are usually more exposed because they are not warmed up as well as other parts of the body. So, what can you do to stop dryness?
Listen to the advice of a specialist
The first step is to find out what your skin type is and what is advisable to do to solve your current skin problems. Visit your dermatologist and listen to what products are good for your skin. There are many skin types and according to your skin type and an overall examination of your skin, the dermatologist will know which products would suit you best. It is also important to remember that sometimes, the most expensive solution is not the right one if your skin doesn’t react properly to it.
Hydrate your skin and body
Extreme winter conditions will dry out your skin anyway, whether you warmed yourself at home, or not. The best way to protect yourself is by finding an oil-based moisturizer that works for you. It will provide to your skin a nice, protective layer of oil that won’t clog your face pores. Many people also tend to forget that you can easily get sunburnt in winter as well. The absence of heat makes them think that the sun is not too strong, which is a mistake. Make sure you don’t come out without a sun-protecting cream on your face and other areas that could be exposed to the sun. Don’t forget that, by increasing your intake of fluids, you can moisturize your skin equally well.
Avoid those long hot baths
This is something we all like to do after staying in the cold winter air for a while. There is nothing more comfortable than getting warm in the hot shower, but it will be a shocking experience for your skin, because pores will expand rapidly, breaking down lipid berries of the skin which will cause dryness. In short, extreme changes in temperature are never good for your skin and can cause problems that you will want to avoid. Instead, you should get used to warm showers that will not take too long.
Grease up your hands and feet
The skin on your hands is much thinner and, therefore, more sensitive than on the other parts of your body. Your hands have natural oils that keep them soft and healthy, but when a person has dry skin it means that they lack these oils so their skin is more likely to be damaged. Pay special attention to your feet as well. It is recommended that you occasionally oil your feet with cream and lotions with glycerine or petroleum and also to use exfoliates so that the dead skin cells are removed and healthy skin can absorb lotion more easily.
In short, it is extremely important to pay care to skin protection during the winter months. Some people will even say that the winter is even harder on your skin than in the summer. From those basic things such as wool socks and warm slippers, all the way to skincare and protection, you should be prepared for the winter. Winter is coming? So what?
