Fun Exercise Activities for Senior Citizens

There will be a time when each and every of us will reach an age where our bodies won’t be the same anymore. We begin to change from our high school sport, fast metabolism bodies into fragile bodies. That will be a good time to begin taking care of your body even more.

Of course, you can keep on rolling with most of the activities that you’ve done in your younger years but should be in a lighter exercise routine. Whether you are an active senior or a healthy nursing home resident, there are plenty of light exercises that will keep you going and are fit for your needs.

Below are some fun exercise activities for seniors:

Walk/Speed Walking: Walking may sound like little exercise but this plays a very big part in anyone’s life at any age. Studies show that it is recommended to walk at least 30 minutes per day. Walking is a great way to keep blood flowing and clear your mind.

Biking: Biking can be fun especially if you grab a partner and ride along bike paths near your town. Remember biking also doesn’t look too difficult but it could definitely work up a sweat.

Swimming: Elderly Couple Exercising in Swimming PoolA more relaxing form of exercising is swimming. Whether you are doing fast laps or doggy paddling on your back, water is a beneficial workout especially for seniors.

Dancing: Not a lot of people are into dancing. There are a variety of fast and slow beat songs that you and your partner may dance to, even if it’s the “one-two step.” It’ll not only be fun but also a nice little workout. Music moves the soul!

Fishing: To many, fishing is a hobby, which isn’t really considered part of an “exercise” plan. However, walking up and down the bank is a low-impact workout. Especially holding onto the fishing pole once you catch a big fish!

Now is the time to do the things you love. Hopefully some of the above fun exercises will help plan out your weeks. You’ll need to do some brainstorming to figure out which activities would make you the happiest, and don’t be afraid to explore new things especially if it’s something you have always wanted to do. Enjoy your time as a senior and let the good times roll!
